So I've finally seen a link to a Threads post in the wild today.
Here at ArrCay, Threads is blocked from scraping any public user data particularly and from connecting in general. For those unfamliar with Threads and/or fediverse platforms, check out the help docs:
What is ArrCay? and
ArrCay Intro.
Now the argument could be made that allowing Threads connections provides real* users there the opportunity to see that better fediverse platforms exist. Also it may provide an easier transition. Users drawn to such a server/instance could then clone their channel/Nomadic ID to the main ArrCay.com (or other compatible) system and disconnect from being part of Meta's data harvesting business. If they wanted to... At least they would have the choice of whether to continue handing over all their personal data and intellectual property or not. 😏
* - Like other Meta products, there is very likely a high percentage of AI bots along with the typical spam/scam accounts that are common on bigtech 'free-for-all' platforms. On the other hand, a possible outcome of allowing Threads is that such a server/instance becomes an administration nightmare and/or gets infested with some of the typical Meta garbage (as found on Fecesbook and Insta
whore uh ...gram) in spite of the extra safeguards a platform like ArrCay provides.
There may be a very low chance of this, given that accounts are subject to a human intelligence approval process so spam/scam and such are practically non-existant and there are better privacy/security options (at least on ArrCay and systems it connects with which use a similar software core), but it is an unknown. What is certain is that Meta will scrape/harvest any available data which it can access from such a server/instance.
I've set comments on this post to 'semi-public' (anyone that can be identified), for those with additional thoughts on this.
Yes, spin up an ArrCay server that doesn't block Threads

No, keep Meta out of the better half of the fediverse.
